Privacy policy
The short version: your quiz answers stay on your device unless you choose to share them, and shared answers are anonymous.

Your quiz answers
The quiz is scored by code running in your own browser. Your answers are not sent to us when you take the quiz or view your results.
Your progress is saved in your browser's local storage so you can pick up where you left off. Local storage also remembers your most recent results, the majors you pick to compare and whether you've shared your answers. All of this stays on your device, and you can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Share links
The "Copy link to my results" button creates a web address that contains your answers in coded form. Anyone you send it to can open your results. The link is not stored by us.
If you choose to share anonymously
After your results, you can choose to share your answers to help us improve the quiz. This is optional, and nothing is sent unless you click "Share anonymously". If you do, we save:
- your 62 quiz answers
- the majors you picked to compare on your results page (up to three), if you picked any
- where you are with choosing a major (chosen, deciding, no idea yet, or not on our list), if you pick one
- whether you're in high school, college, working or other, if you pick one
- the date and the version of the quiz
We do not save your name, email address, IP address, location or any cookie or device identifier with these answers. We use them only to check that the quiz measures what it should and to learn what students in each major enjoy. We may publish combined statistics, such as averages across many people. We never publish or sell individual responses.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
This site does not currently use cookies, analytics tools or advertising. Its fonts, styles and scripts load from our own server, so visiting a page doesn't send your information to outside companies. Links to other sites, such as the government data sources we cite, only contact those sites if you click them.
If we add analytics or advertising in the future, we'll update this policy before it starts, including what's collected and the choices you have.
Server logs
Like most websites, our web host keeps standard server logs, which can include IP addresses and browser details, to keep the site running and secure. These logs are kept by the host and are not linked to quiz answers.
Children
The quiz is meant for students 13 and older. We don't ask for or collect personal information from anyone, and anonymous shared answers contain none.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
